Let&#8217;s discover what changes on the new <em>Power Units<\/em> (PU) designed to have an almost equal balance between the internal combustion engine (ICE) and the electric component.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>new Ferrari engine racing in F1<\/strong> was created to tackle a regulation that radically redraws the balance: <strong>absence of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsauto.it\/racing\/nuovo-regolamento-tecnico-f1-2026-2025-395619\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MGU-H<\/a><\/strong>, increased battery weight and volume, fuel tank reduced to just 100 liters, and even deeper integration between the internal combustion and hybrid parts. The elimination of the MGU-H forced designers to create a compact turbocharger configuration. The turbine and compressor return to being coaxial, with the introduction of a <strong>thermal barrier<\/strong>: a solution that dissociates the 1,000\u00b0C of the turbine from the approximately 200\u00b0C of the compressor, ensuring thermal insulation and greater fluid-dynamic efficiency. <br>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>50\/50 Hybrid Architecture:<\/strong> the Power Unit is a <strong>turbo-hybrid V6<\/strong> whose central philosophy is the power balance between thermal and electric.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Power from the internal combustion engine<\/strong> (ICE) <strong>reduced<\/strong> to approximately <strong>400 kW<\/strong> (compared to the current ~550 kW).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Power from the electric part (MGU-K) <\/strong>increased enormously to approximately <strong>350 kW<\/strong> (it was ~120 kW).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>100% sustainable fuel<\/strong> will be used.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Abolition of the MGU-H:<\/strong> the complex Motor Generator Unit-Heat (MGU-H) will be eliminated, simplifying the power unit but increasing the energy recovery challenge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus on Energy Recovery:<\/strong> the capacity to recover energy under braking has doubled (up to <strong>8.5 MJ<\/strong> per lap), making Ferrari&#8217;s ability to efficiently manage the charge and release cycle crucial.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ferraris_Aggressive_Innovations\"><\/span>Ferrari&#8217;s Aggressive Innovations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ferrari&#8217;s real bet lies in bold technical choices, many of which stem from the initial project by <strong>Wolf Zimmermann<\/strong> and the engine department led by <strong>Enrico Gualtieri<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Extreme integration with the chassis<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The main goal is to design the Power Unit to allow the use of <strong>significantly smaller radiators<\/strong>. This reduction is strategic for <strong>decreasing sidepod bulk<\/strong> and drastically improving the car&#8217;s overall aerodynamic efficiency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Material technologies (thermal engine):<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ferrari aimed to push the V6 engine to the limit, particularly through the use of <strong>unprecedented alloys and materials<\/strong> for the cylinder head (possibly via Additive Manufacturing technologies like DMLS).
