Initially, carbon discs had a thickness of <strong>28 mm<\/strong>, with a maximum of <strong>72 holes<\/strong> arranged in a single row and a hole diameter exceeding <strong>10 millimeters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsauto.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Brembo-pinza-disco-F1-anteriore.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsauto.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Brembo-pinza-disco-F1-anteriore-1024x784.jpg\" alt=\"Brembo front F1 brake disc and caliper\" class=\"wp-image-484782\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">328 mm Brembo front F1 brake disc and caliper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the diameter of the discs has increased from 278 mm to <strong>328 mm<\/strong> for the front and from 266 mm to <strong>280 mm<\/strong> for the rear, with a thickness of <strong>32 mm<\/strong> and a number of holes between <strong>1,000 and 1,100 for the front<\/strong> and up to <strong>900 for the rear<\/strong> in the most extreme cooling configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Brembo F1 brake calipers<\/strong>, on the other hand, have up to <strong>6 pistons<\/strong>, the maximum number allowed by the regulations; they are made of <strong>aluminum alloy<\/strong> machined from solid and nickel-plated, for all drivers on the grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsauto.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Brembo-pinza-F1-anteriore.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsauto.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Brembo-pinza-F1-anteriore-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Details of the Brembo front F1 brake caliper\" class=\"wp-image-484785\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Details of the Brembo front F1 brake caliper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These brakes allow current cars to decelerate, for example <strong>from 313 km\/h to 75 km\/h in just 122 meters.<\/strong> To do this, drivers brake for <strong>2.86 seconds<\/strong>, exerting a load of <strong>129<\/strong> kg on the brake pedal, while the braking power is <strong>2,101 kW<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-spessore-freni-brembo-f1\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Brembo_F1_brake_thickness\"><\/span>Brembo F1 brake thickness<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the 2025 championship, the last with the current technical regulations, the teams supplied by Brembo use <strong>two different types of carbon discs: \u201cwide spline\u201d<\/strong> and <strong>\u201csingle sided spline\u201d<\/strong>. In the specification called \u201cwide spline,\u201d the thickness of the drive \u2013 the part in contact with the bell \u2013 is equal to the thickness of the disc, while in the specification called \u201csingle sided spline,\u201d the thickness of the drive is less than the thickness of the disc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsauto.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Brembo-disco-F1-posteriore.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsauto.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Brembo-disco-F1-posteriore-1024x799.jpg\" alt=\"Brembo rear F1 brake disc\" class=\"wp-image-484780\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">280 mm Brembo rear carbon F1 brake disc<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This second solution can favor a <strong>different disc ventilation strategy<\/strong> and better wheel corner packaging, but at the expense of optimal mechanical stress on the carbon, which limits the possible drilling for ventilation. The choice of one or the other solution depends on the needs of each individual team based on the design of the individual cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pinza-freno-f1-brembo-e-ap-racing\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Brembo_and_AP_Racing_F1_brake_calipers\"><\/span>Brembo and AP Racing F1 brake calipers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brembo brake calipers therefore equip all 10 Formula 1 teams: specifically, 9 teams are supplied with Brembo calipers, while one team receives <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apracing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AP Racing<\/a><\/strong> calipers, a company based in Coventry, part of the Bergamo-based group. All teams use <strong>6-piston calipers on the front<\/strong>, while on the <strong>rear<\/strong>, 8 teams prefer the <strong>6-piston caliper<\/strong> and only 2 teams mount a <strong>4-piston caliper<\/strong>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsauto.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Brembo-pinza-F1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsauto.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Brembo-pinza-F1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Brembo F1 brake caliper\" class=\"wp-image-484784\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Brembo brake caliper of an F1 car is a masterpiece!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, to adapt to the different needs of the teams, the calipers adopt different <strong>brake master cylinder<\/strong> systems. Specifically, five teams use brake master cylinders supplied by Brembo and AP Racing, while four teams mount <strong>by-wire units<\/strong> developed by Brembo, which manage <strong>rear braking<\/strong> by instantaneously adjusting the <strong>balance between dissipative and regenerative braking<\/strong>. Based on the data collected, they can assist the driver in managing temperatures and the braking balance on the car.
