The platform has officially announced the release of “Schumacher ’94”, a documentary that will tell the story of the 1994 Formula 1 season in an unprecedented way, the year of the German driver’s first world title.

Netflix celebrates Schumacher in his breakthrough year
The documentary will be a German-language non-fiction film and will focus on Schumacher’s first championship-winning season with Benetton. In 1994, the future seven-time world champion achieved eight victories, two second places, and his first world title, officially launching one of the most extraordinary careers in Formula 1 history.
The production is entrusted to LEONINE Documentaries, directed by Christin Freitag, and is part of Netflix‘s plan to strengthen its offering of high-level sports and biographical content.
The plot: a historic season between glory, controversy, and humanity
According to the official synopsis, Schumacher ’94 will tell the story of one of the most dramatic and controversial years in modern Formula 1. The season was marked by events that changed motorsport forever, such as the tragic passing of Ayrton Senna, but also by strong controversies related to alleged technical irregularities and maneuvers judged aggressive on the track.
Alongside the sporting narrative, the documentary will offer a more intimate look at Michael Schumacher.
